Bob is amazed by the detail and craftsmanship of the beautiful, antique, slag glass table lamps he gets the opportunity to restore. This lamp's center ring was falling out because of the weight of the glass. Below are the details of what Bob did to repair it.
The ring was pushed up, so Bob had to grind out the excess metal holding it in the wrong place. Then the ring was put back in to position to keep the lamp shade level. Wires were then put through the ring into supporting frame and soldered to the frame to prevent the ring from ever coming up again.
All the work was accomplished from inside, so that there was no visible work done to the outside of the shade. A petina was put over top of the repairs, so that it would never be noticed.
A slight gold petina was applied to the shade and lamp at the request of the client. The gold was so carefully and lightly applied that you could not tell it was not original to the piece. The petina looked so authentic it was as if the lamp had been sitting untouched for 100 years.
